Ellsworth's mind is never too far from his next bike, particularly when it comes to improving its design. "Every gram you can shave equals less energy you have to expend to power the bike," Ellsworth said. The company's lightest mountain-bike frame weighs 3 pounds. The lightest road bike frame weighs 2.2 pounds. Avid cyclists insist that the lighter the bike, the more the riders feel like they're flying instead of pedaling.
